Highwater is a song that brings out the Rock Roots from the band, in a thematic classic-rock sound. Here is what lead singer Jake Vogel has to say about writing the lyrics:
"Highwater is obviously about flooding. It is based on a hypothetical event in New Orleans, Louisiana, but was written in 2003....ironically two years before Hurricane Katrina. I actually came up with the lyrics after seeing commercials for the movie "Hard Rain" with Morgan Freeman."
